Questions & Answers for Tetra Aquatic Reptile Heater
Question
Is there a way to turn the temperature up?
I recently got a water heater for my turtle and he only has 10 gallons of water in his tank, yet it is keeping it at 72 to 75 which is NOT hot enough for a red eared slider. Your product details ensures it to stay at 78 so I was wondering if you had a way to turn it up seeing as it's well below 78 for my tank.

Hi, The reptile heater should be at 78 degrees unless the room temperature is more than ten degrees cooler. They are designed to work within this ten degree range from room temperature. If you can rule this out, then please contact us by email: consumersupport@unitedpetgroup.com, or by phone: 1-800-526-0650. These heaters are pre-set so there is no way to turn up the heat. Your heater may be defective. You might also want to use a second thermometer to make sure you don't have an inaccurate reading. A couple degrees from 78 would not be defective, but if it is more than that it may be.
How much water has to be in the tank for heater not to over heat water?
I have two small turtles and tank can't be more than 1/4 full. Will the heater over heat the water for them?

Hello, The heaters must be fully submerged. So long as they are fully submerged, they should not overheat the auarium. We do make Reptile heaters that have a protective green cover over them, specifically for turtles. This green plastic case keeps the turtles from banging against the glass with their shell. Using this type heater is recommended.
This is the second one of these heaters that I have had. Neither of them are heating my tank. It is a 20 gallon tank that I keep my red eared slider in. It says that it will heat up to a thirty gallon tank. The heater is plugged in and everything but the water around it and even the heater itself isn't even warm. This also happened with my last one and I thought that it was just a defective one, but now my new one is doing the same thing.

Contact our customer service department at 1-800-526-0650. I'm not sure as to why neither heater worked for you, but we may be able to help you over the phone.
I have had this heater for about 6 months or so, and have been very happy with it, but for the last couple of days, I find that the red light is always on, and my thermometer strip is reading 30 degress Celsius/ 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
The house is not cold - it's been very pleasant here. Is the heater broken, or is there something I should be doing? Right now, I'm just unplugging it for a few hours at a time.

Everytime I clean my turtle tank, I rinse off the heater thoroughly and then wipe it with a paper towel. I do not take it apart. Recently, I did this, but when I put the heater back in the aquarium, it is not working. Should I take it apart to clean it?

If by take it apart, you mean remove the outer cage, and wipe the heater itself down, then yes, we would recommend doing that. Use plain hot water to clean it. If you tend to have minerals in your water, use a wet cloth with some white vinegar. Clean it gently then rinse well in warm water.
If the temperature in the tank has reached the set temperature of 76-80 degrees, you will only notice the light when the temperature starts to drop and the heater needs to raise it again. It is generally pretty subtle, coming on only for a moment or two then going off again, as it brings the temperature back up. It does not allow it to drop much before it comes on, so it does not need to stay on for long to keep it at the proper temperature.
Is it acceptable to use 2 (or 3) of these heaters in the same tank if it is larger than 30 gallons? I realize they may still heat the water, but I don't know if the thermostats would adapt appropriately when used in conjunction with other heaters.

Yes, in fact, we recommend 2 heaters for fish tanks over 30 gallons. In regards to yours being an amphibian or reptile tank, do the same, just bear in mind how many gallons you will actually place in the tank.
The heater was plugged in for about 8 to 10 minutes before the water was poured into the tank because the instructions were misread. Now it's overheating. The temperature goes up to about 90-95 degrees. Is there a way to fix the heater (reset the thermostat?) or do I need to buy a new heater? Thanks.

You can try to let it cool down for a half an hour, and reset it but it may be shot. They do not like being on, outside of water. :-(
Where can I find one? Where is the cheapest place to buy it?

Fire bellied newts should be kept around 65-70 degrees. There are other newts, found in more southern climes, that require heaters, yours will not.
This heater worked for the first day that i purchased it for my 30 gallon turtle tank. i fill it half way so that is only 15 gallons of water, The next day I unplugged it and waited 30 minutes and then changed the water. After filling it up I waited 30 minutes and then pluugged it in. It never come on again. It has been 24 hours. Why did it stop working?

Did the water temperature drop? It will only come on when it needs to, and it only stays on for a few moments, so you may have easily missed it coming back on.
